Physical phenomena of interest
Optical properties of low-dimensional nanomaterials: design and study of advanced materials for applications in optical memories, light emitters, waveguiding and optical gas sensing. Microspectroscopy of single quantum emitters (molecules, quantum dots, nanotubes). Surface-enhanced fluorescence and raman scattering of single emitters. Development of cryogenic equipment.
Materials under study
Metal-oxide films, fibers, powders; synthetical diamond films and powders, diamond-like carbon, carbon nanotubes.
Current grant funding:
- ESF, grant No 8699 (2011-2013), PI, "Temperature- and light-controlled defectiveness of metal oxides for application in optical gas sensing"
- EU Grant II-20060076 EC (2009-2011), PI, "Functionalization of wide-gap oxides for application in optical gas sensing and persistent phosphors"
- Estonian Target-financed project SF0180058s07 (2007-2012), coPI. "Low-dimensional systems and their applications"
